I thought arnica at first, but prairie sunflower seems to make more sense.

The leaves in the second picture do look like prairie sunflower leaves.

Looks like some type of Arnica to me. Arnica does grow wild on the prairie and foothills in Alberta. Maybe Arnica fulgens?

looks like an arrowleaf balsam to me. It has a lot of good uses.
